Born and raised in New York City, I began my yoga practice in 1997 as a form of relaxation to balance the rigorous demands of graduate school and working full time. I Immediately felt a connection on a physical and spiritual level having felt boxed-in and labeled with other spiritual paths.
In 1998, I was diagnosed with systemic lupus nephritis and had to take a medical leave of absence from work, school, and by default yoga. I reconnected with my physical practice in 2004 but it wasn't until I took a yoga class at The YogaScape and heard Amy Pearce Hayden's dharma talk I felt this could be the path to fill my spiritual needs. I found that yoga simultaneously satisfied and challenged me on a physical and mental level. This desire to both deepen my knowledge of yoga philosophy as well as my physical practice led me to complete both the 200 and 500-hour teacher training at The Raja-Hatha School of Yoga in 2009 and 2011 respectively. I have also completed the “Principles of Yoga Anatomy” certification course with Leslie Kaminoff of The Breathing Project in New York City and am a Reiki Level 3 practitioner (Reiki Master) certified through Deborah Flanagan of The Center for True Health, NYC. In 2022. I recently received the 300-hour Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga certification.
I have been teaching since 2009 with an emphasis on body awareness, believing that once we have body awareness all poses are attainable within our current ability and level. I also use the science of yoga as an aid for those diagnosed with anxiety. Having struggled with anxiety all of my life, I draw from my direct experience of how yoga philosophy and breath work allowed me to "be" beyond my anxiety.
Additionally, through the mind, body, balance connection I have learned to listen to my body when it "whispers" that I am out of balance. Taking action when my body is in the initial stages of imbalance has lessened the likelihood of a lupus flare. All of the knowledge and awareness gained from my life experiences combined with the path of yoga are reflected in my style and approach to teaching.
~ Yoga has humbled me with the realization that I will be a student forever.
The path of Yoga has taught me how to listen, let go, be receptive and most importantly, how to trust again. ~

"Caroline, Thank you for being such an inspiration to me and for gently guiding me to deepen my practice both mentally [and] physically. It has been a real pleasure to have been a part of your class.
"Caroline is the most relentlessly optimistic and positive person we have ever met and we have come to relish every opportunity we have to work with her. She has a beautiful professionalism that takes into account personal limitations — real and imagined — and applies that insight to help each of us realistically achieve our physical goals. Caroline’s upbeat attitude has helped each of us develop a deeper appreciation of the spiritual potential of an active yoga practice, no matter what each of us individually chooses to bring to the mat."

"Caroline Gomez has inspired me beyond the mat. Her wisdom and guidance has provided me with a greater understanding of the yoga path. I have profound admiration and respect for her as a teacher and I am truly thankful that I have the opportunity to benefit from her classes. "

"Caroline is very knowledgeable about body awareness and so helpful with poses, alignment, modifications, etc. making the class very comfortable for all. From a great dharma talk to savasana, I enjoy her classes immensely. I highly recommend her yoga classes to anyone interested in yoga...experienced or not!

"In the summer of 2013 I began working almost weekly with Caroline to strengthen my body and see how flexible I could become. Having lived extended periods of my life, sometimes years, in chronic pain, I was also eager to see if my body would let go of pain and tension. The work resulted in all the physical outcomes I had hoped for (and more that I hadn't!). But the true gifts have been beyond the physical achievements. Caroline brings a serenity and acceptance to yoga practice that was essential for me to let go of judgments and celebrate the present moment. Most weeks she prepared a class special to my needs, but she was also incredibly facile at changing gears and creating a class for me on the fly, if my mental or physical attitudes any given morning needed special tending. She is wonderfully astute at sensing breakthroughs, and therefore helping me to stretch just a little more so I could have the sweetness of the moment. Her expertise in alignment and anatomy are impeccable, and her often heard, "Yeah, THAT'S IT! THAT'S it!," accompanied by a big smile and clapping, inspired me to keep trying and trying.
During the summer of 2014 (about a year after we had been working together), I often said to Caroline, "remember when I didn't used to be able to do this? Now look at me." She would smile and give me all the credit, but the truth is that without her encouragement and commitment, I would not have been able to appreciate my body as physically strong and supportive of my life. Some say that the best teachers don't teach us anything new, but help us to remember what somewhere deep inside us exists, but we've forgotten.
Caroline is that kind of teacher and mentor. I am forever grateful for her friendship and her true teaching heart."
